Student Midwife - Continuity of Care Experience

  • A continuity of care experience is a 100% free program in which a Student Midwife follows along a woman’s pregnancy, birth and post-partum, as part of their qualification requirements in becoming a registered Midwife.

Student Midwives can offer an incredible amount of support, both physically (attending appointments, scans, through labour and birth) and emotionally (24/7 on-call sounding board willing to hear out any concerns or worries you are experiencing and offer resources on where we can find you the best or most appropriate support) during your pregnancy, birth and post-partum.

But the main reason so many women decide to have a Student Midwife to support them throughout their care. Is they feel like they have a true advocate in their corner, who is as passionate about the woman’s own individual preferences and needs as the woman herself is. There are absolutely no stupid questions with a Student Midwife. And when you need more information, we will work with you in accessing reliable sound sources til you feel confident.

    • A meet and greet consult one-on-one to discuss any questions, decide whether a CCE is appropriate, and be beneficial to your experience. Read consent forms and if you feel this is the right journey for you provide written consent.

    • Attending antenatal appointments with care provider of your choice. With a minimum of 4 appointments attended.

    • Attend Labour and Birth, at your discretion.

    • Attending post-partum appointment check-ups. With a minimum of 2 appointments attended.

    • A passionate advocate in your corner, who is knowledgeable about finding evidence-based resources and local services, to help you receive the best information, care and service through whatever you face during this season.

    • Having the extra support from a Student Midwife can be suitable for all types of families.

    • Zero judgement zone from a fellow mama who understands how unique each woman’s journey is and should be.

    • 24/7 on-call phone number dedicated only to CCE women, this line is always on and dedicated to the women I’m supporting. So even if you are feeling overwhelmed and just need a sounding board late at night my line is always cleared. And any concerns or worries you have, I can direct you to the best relevant resources, support or services for what you’re facing.
